Biasanya kalau kita ingin mengatakan "tapi; melainkan; meskipun demikian; walaupun begitu; rupanya; kecuali; hanya; cuma, yang tidak." dalam bahasa Inggris, maka kita akan menggunakan kata "but". Hal itu benar, namun untuk menambah perbendaharaan kosakata atau vocabulary bahasa Inggris, kita bisa menggunakan alternatif kata lainnya selain kata "but".
Masih banyak kata lain yang bisa kita gunakan untuk mengatakan kata-kata di atas tadi dalam bahasa Inggris. Berikut ini beberapa diantaranya beserta contoh penggunaannya dalam kalimat:
