Pengertian Simple Past Tense

Simple past tense adalah keterangan waktu untuk mengungkapkan sebuah kegiatan yang telah terjadi di masa lalu/ lampau dan kegiatan yang terjadi sudah tidak dirasakan pada saat ini.

Rumus dan Contoh Kalimat Simple Past Tense Verbal

Simple Past Tense yang menggunakan kata kerja/ Verb dalam Kalimat Positif/ Positive

Kalimat Positif (+) 

Subject + Verb-2 + Object 

Kata Kerja/ Verb yang digunakan adalah Kata Kerja Bentuk Ke-2/ Verb-2. Oleh sebab itu, apabila anda memahami perubahan bentuk ke-2 dari sebuah Verb, maka saya yakin seyakin yakinnya anda tidak akan mengalami kesulitan yang berarti pada saat membuat kalimat-kalimat Simple Past Tense.

Kata Kerja Bentuk Ke-2/ Verb-2 memiliki 2 varian yang harus dikuasai, yaitu:

• Kata Kerja Beraturan/ Regular
• Kata Kerja Tidak Beraturan/ Irregular

Kata Kerja Beraturan/ Regular identik sekali dengan penambahan “-ed/t” pada akhir kata kerja yang bersangkutan.

Contoh:

• play = played
• watch = watched
• ask = asked
• fix = fixed
• type = typed
• look = looked
• open = opened
• close = closed
• wash = washed
• learn = learnt

Kata Kerja Tidak Beraturan/ Irregular adalah sebuah kata kerja yang mengalami perubahan, baik dari struktur huruf atau kata dan juga lafal.

• give = gave
• drink = drank
• sing = sang
• ride = rode
• read = read
• steal = stole
• take = took
• build = built
• sweep =  swept
• teach = taught
• buy = bought

Berikut ini adalah contoh kalimat Positif untuk Simple Past Tense dengan menggunakan Kata Kerja Verb-2:

• They visited Kuta Beach.
• The girls played sand happily.
• She built sand castle.
• The boys did surfing through the waves.

• May rode her bike around the shoreline.

Siapa pun Subject (He/ She/ It/ Name Of Person/ I/ They/ We/ You) yang akan anda buat dalam kalimat positif, tidak mempengaruhi bentuk Kata Kerja Ke-2 dalam kalimat tersebut.

Simple Past Tense yang menggunakan kata kerja/ Verb dalam Kalimat Negatif/ Negative

Kalimat Negatif (-)  

Subject + did + not + Verb-1 + Object 

Kata Kerja/ Verb yang digunakan adalah Kata Kerja Bentuk Ke-1/ Verb-1. Jadi anda tidak perlu bersusah payah memahami perubahan bentuk ke-2 dari sebuah Verb, melainkan anda harus menggunakan “did” (auxiliary verb/ tobe) sebagai bantu kata kerja untuk semua Subject dan jangan lupa disertakan dengan “not” karena “not” merupakan sebuah ciri khas dari semua kalimat negatif dan tentunya berlaku juga untuk kalimat-kalimat Simple Past Tense.

Berikut ini adalah contoh kalimat Negatif untuk Simple Past Tense:

• I and my family did not go to Bali last month.
• We did not see tourist in Bali.

Kesimpulan kalimat Negatif untuk Simple Past Tense dengan menggunakan Kata Kerja Verb-1:

Siapa pun Subject (He/ She/ It/ Name Of Person/ I/ They/ We/ You) yang akan anda buat dalam kalimat negatif, tidak mempengaruhi bentuk Kata Kerja Ke-1 dalam kalimat tersebut tetapi yang menjadi cacatan penting adalah penggunan “did + not” yang berlaku untuk semua Subject.

Siapa pun Subject (He/ She/ It/ Name Of Person/ I/ They/ We/ You) yang akan anda buat dalam kalimat Tanya, tidak mempengaruhi bentuk Kata Kerja Ke-1 dalam kalimat tersebut tetapi yang menjadi cacatan penting adalah penggunaan “did” yang berlaku untuk semua Subject dan meletakkannya di depan/ awal kalimat sebelum Subject. Untuk kalimat Tanya di atas adalah bentuk kalimat Tanya “Yes/ No Question”

Dalam kenyataan di kehidupan sehari-hari. Ternyata tidak semua kalimat yang terucap selalu menggunakan kata kerja, ada pula yang menggunakan Kata Sifat/ Adjective dan juga Kata Benda/ Noun. Adverb of Time/ Kata Keterangan Waktu yang digunakan di dalam Simple Past Tense adalah sebagai berikut:
