Dialogue I

A: Excuse me. (Permisi)

B: Good morning, how can I help you? (Selamat pagi, ada yang bisa saya bantu?)

A: I’m looking for TOEFL book. (Saya sedang mencari buku TOEFL)

B: We have several TOEFL preparation books in language section, which author would you like?

A: I haven’t made up my mind, do you have any recommendation? (Saya belum membuat keputusan, apa Anda punya rekomendasi?)

B: Our best-selling collection so far is still Barron’s. But I suggest that you go to the language section and decide which one you like best.

A: Can I read the books there? (Bolehkah saya membaca bukunya di sana?)

B: You may not open the plastic seal, but there are a couple of sample books for you to take a look.

A: I’m there. (Saya akan ke sana)

 Dialogue II

A: Hello, do you have Harry Potter? (Halo, apa Anda punya Harry Potter?)

B: Hi, we do have the series. We also have the paperback box set. (Hai, kami punya serialnya.

A: Actually, I’m only looking for the seventh book. The hardcover one, please. (Sebenarnya saya cuma mencari buku yang ke-tujuh. Yang sampul tebal)

B: I’m afraid the hardcover edition is out of stock. Would you like to get the paperback instead? (Maaf untuk edisi sampul tebal sedang habis. Maukah Anda ambil yang sampul tipis saja?)

A: When will it be back in stock? (Kapan akan tersedia lagi?)

B: I can’t make sure, because the book is not highly on demand. I suggest that you visit our website and see if the particular edition you wish is still available. You can order it online and it will be sent to your house from the head office.

A: I will try. Thank you. (Akan saya coba. Terima kasih)

Dialogue III

A: Hi, could you help me find the book I’m looking for? (Hai, bisa bantu saya mencari buku?)

B: Good morning. What kind of book is it? (Selamat pagi. Buku apakah itu?)

A: It’s a novel by American author. It’s a surprise gift for a friend, but too bad I forgot the title.

B: Do you remember what the book is about? (Apa Anda ingat bukunya tentang apa?)

A: Well, I only remember the cover. It’s orange and yellow. And oh, the author is named Paul, if I’m not mistaken. (Saya hanya ingat sampulnya.

B: Do you mean ‘The Alchemist’ by Paulo Coelho? (Maksud Anda ‘The Alchemist’ dari Paulo Coelho?)

A: Yes-that’s the book I’m looking for! (Ya-itu buku yang saya cari!)

B: The author is actually not from America. He’s Brazilian. (Penulisnya bukan dari Amerika. Dia dari Brazil)

A: Yeah, my bad. So do you have the book? I can’t seem to find it. (Ya, salah saya. Jadi apakah Anda punya bukunya? Saya tidak bisa menemukannya)

B: We do. Since it’s for a present, would you like it to be wrapped? (Kami ada. Sebab ini untuk hadiah, mau dibungkus sekalian?)

A: Sure. That’ll be great. (Ya, bagus)

Dialogue IV

A: Good morning, can I get a help finding a book? (Pagi, bisa bantu saya mencari buku?)

B: Good morning, sure you can. What kind of book are you looking for? (Selamat pagi, tentu. Buku apa yang sedang Anda cari?)

A: It’s a novel from Ray Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451. (Novel dari Ray Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451)

B: Let me check. Umm… We did have it in our store last year, and it’s no longer is our catalogue at the moment. (Biar saya periksa. Hmm…

A: That’s bad. This is like the 10th store I visit. (Buruk sekali. Ini toko ke-10 yang saya datangi)

B: Have you tried online stores? Or, flea market? (Sudahkah Anda coba toko online? Atau, pasar loak?)

A: I prefer the latter. (Saya pilih yang terakhir)

B: Good luck with your finding. Do you need anything else? (Selamat mencari. Apa Anda perlu yang lain lagi?)

A: I’ll look around to see if there’s any other literature I like.

B: Please do. (Silahkan)

Latihan soal conversations

Man: Hot today, isn’t?
Woman: Yes, it is. I wish that it would rain and cool off.
Man: Me too. This is unusual for March. I don’t remember it ever being so hot and dry in March before.
According to the conversation, what kind of weather is usual for March?
Man: have you done your slides for the presentation?
Woman: I still need to make a few more slides.
man: Can I give you a hand?
Woman: Sure. Please correct my work and underline the incorrect words.
Man: Sure. Let me do that for you.

What is true about the dialogue?
Woman: Would you like me to help you with your project?
Man: Sure. Would you help me design the cover?
Woman: Of course. I like designing very much.
Man: OK. It should be simple but impressive. I know you are skillful at it.
Woman: No problem. I will have it done soon.
Man: I'm lucky to have a friend like you.
Woman: I am glad to help you.
Man: Thanks a lot. You are very kind.
Woman: Don't mention it.
What is the woman doing?
Mrs. Yona, Mrs. Fitri's aunt, dropped in Mrs. Fitri's house. Fitri opened the door for her and offered her a drink.
Fitri: Please come in, aunty.
Mrs. Yona: Thank you.
Fitri: Have your seat and make yourself comfortable. ____
Mrs. Yona: Yes, please.
Man: Nana wait! I have good news for you.
Woman: What about?
Man: Now, I’m not just an employee but I’m a manager.
Woman: That’s great! I’m happy to hear that you’ve succeeded in your career.
Man: Thank you, wish me luck.
What does the woman express?
Man: Did you have a nice flight, ma'am?
Woman: Yes, but a little turbulence.
Man: Let me help you with the bag.
Woman: Thank you. It's very kind of you.
Man: Do you want to take a taxi or the bus?
Woman: A taxi will be OK with me.
Man: But, getting a taxi at this time may be difficult.
Woman: No problem, I'll wait.
Where does the dialogue probably take place?
Man: Oh my god, this traffic is making me crazy.
Woman: Absolutely! I think there must be an accident.
Man: I think so too. It’s almost seven o’clock. We’ll be late for school.
Woman: We’d better tell our teacher that we’re coming late, because of the traffic. We hope and pray that traffic will be fine soon and we will not miss the first lesson.
Man: Okay, let’s call her.
What is the best solution they have?
Man: I have been working since seven in the morning and now I’m exhausted.
Woman: Why don’t you take rest for a while?
How does the man feel?
Alan: Hi, Jon. Do you fancy playing chess?
Joni: Oh, no thanks, I don't really feel like playing chess. How about going out instead.
Alan: it sounds good. Do you like eating at the Padang Restaurant?
Joni: I really do not like it. How about going to the theatre?
Alan: I love it. There is a new movie.
Joni: Well I really keen on it. Let's go.

What does Alan offer to Joni?
Man: Why you so sad?
Woman: My pet is lost, she has been missing for a whole day.
Man: You mean your kitty.
Woman: Yes.
What makes the woman sad?
