Pengertian reflexive pronouns

Reflexive pronouns adalah bentuk pronoun atau kata ganti yang digunakan ketika subjek menerima aksi dari verb (kata kerja) atau ketika suatu objek dalam kalimat sama dengan subjeknya.

I lived alone in this town. There is no friend with me. All I do is by myself. Where is my friend when I need the most?

Perhatikan kata yang ditebalkan, kata myself merupakan kata ganti benda reflexive pronouns yang memiliki arti diriku sendiri.

Kata ganti benda reflexive pronouns dipakai ketika kedua subjek dan pelengkap menggantikan seseorang (someone) atau sesuatu (something) yang sama. Kapan dipakainya? Kata ganti ini dipakai sebagai pelengkap kalimat atau klausa kalimat atau sebagai objek dari kata depan (preposition) (yang lupa apa itu kata depan, bisa dicek kembali). Berikut ini kata ganti benda reflexive:

• yourself
• himself
• herself
• ourselves
• yourselves
• themselves
• itself

Pola atau rumus kalimatnya:

S + V + pronoun (reflexive)

Contoh kalimat:

• They go there by themselves
• He can heal himself
• I won’t go by myself

Catatan: Jangan memakai kata ganti benda objek dan kata ganti benda possessive!

Contoh:

Incorrect: They had gone to beach by them.
Correct   : They had gone to beach by themselves.

Incorrect: Be careful or you will hurt him.
Correct   : Be careful or you will hurt himself.

Incorrect: The snake dies by eating its.
Correct   : The snake dies by eating itself.

Incorrect: I am calling you by mine.
Correct   : I am calling you by myself.

Incorrect: You must learn your to control your emotion.
Correct   : You must learn yourself to control your emotion.

Incorrect: Luna hurts she by cutting her arm using sharp blade.
Correct   : Luna hurts herself by cutting her arm using sharp blade.

Incorrect: You must be careful or you will hurt your.
Correct   : You must be careful or you will hurt yourself.

Incorrect: We don’t need it to improve our.
Correct   : We don’t need it to improve ourselves.

Incorrect: Why don’t you do it by your?
Correct   : Why don’t you do it by yourself?

Incorrect: We had to teach us to read and to write.
